First City in Alabama to have LimeBikes

500 of these bright green bikes have been deployed in Downtown Mobile and the University of South Alabama as the state's first dockless bike share program gets up and running. Lime entered Mobile in August of 2018 and we see flashes of green everywhere we go now! The Downtown Alliance released a statistic that in the first four days, more than 1000 rides were taken(...and that was before all 500 bikes had been deployed)!

If you haven't taken a ride yet, there are a few things you need to know:

  • The system is app based, so download the app and set up an account.
  • When you open the app, it will show you the location of the nearest bikes.
  • Scan the QR code on the back of the bike, and off you go! It's $1.00 for a 30 minute ride (there are reduced rates for students and lower income riders).
  • When you arrive at your destination, be sure to lock the bike and park it so that it's not blocking pedestrians or wheelchairs.

Mobilians and visitors now have a great, affordable way to explore Mobile. Here are a few things to remember: 1. Follow the rules of the road, including one-way streets, and 2. If you see a bike blocking the sidewalk, feel free to move it a few feet. 3. Riders under the age of 16 are legally required to wear a helmet!
